Kristen, an art therapist, and Joe, an insurance underwriter, were introduced by mutual friends at a New Year’s Eve party. They quickly became best friends, and after eight months of courtship, Joe proposed.
They decided to plan their wedding on the Outer Banks because they shared a love of the beach. Kristen had frequent family vacations on the Outer Banks and knew it was a quaint location for a destination wedding. Since most of their guests would have to travel for the event no matter where it was taking place, Kristen and Joe figured the beach would be even more desirable for everyone to make the trip.
Kristen and Joe chose The First Colony Inn in Nags Head so they could provide short term accommodations for their guests in addition to having the ceremony and reception all in one location. Several guests who chose to stay longer chose to rent houses within walking distance of the Inn.
To go along with their Outer Banks theme, they chose centerpieces for each table that resembled “mile marker” signs seen throughout the Outer Banks. The escort cards simply stated the guest would be sitting at “mile marker...”. It was a cute idea that went over big. For their favors, Joe’s family is Slovakian and giving honey to guests is a cultural tradition. The jars were covered with various fabrics matching the colors of the wedding. |
